Many areas require attention and there are many people and expenses involved in the process: the repairmen, litigation arising from another party involved in the accident, the claims adjuster, medical expenses and much more.

You need to familiarize yourself with the type of auto policy, which is in effect. The policy is a contract between you and your insurance company, which provides coverage at a certain specified monthly premium as paid by you.

Upon purchasing the policy, you will receive a policy document or insuring agreement from the insurance company, which spells out the terms and conditions, as well as the exclusions of the policy.

Another very important part contained in the policy document is the Declarations page that shows which vehicles are covered, the drivers covered and the limit of the policy as well as the portion of responsibility on the side of the insured. The declarations page also contains a list of forms and endorsements or 'add-ons' that are included in the policy as well as the exclusions.

A Premium is the amount due to the insurance company by the insured for coverage against losses specified in the policy.

The Insured is the policyholder. Covered Persons are drivers that are included in the policy's coverage. This includes family members or any other authorized person driving the vehicle.

Damages is the term for losses incurred. This covers property, liability losses and physical injuries.

A third party inclusion can be added to pay for verifiable expenses that are incurred by the other party. General losses, pain and suffering compensation and similar expenses can be claimed for. The liability portion of the policy covers these losses. These two losses are covered under the liability portion of the policy and are subject to the limits of liability for the policy. The Claimant is the third-party to any claim against the insured policyholder.

A Claim is a declaration of damages incurred.

The Claim Process is the processing of a loss by the insurance company.

One needs to familiarize oneself with the claims process the procedure.

Once a claim is submitted, a representative will be assigned to handle the claim. The representative will determine if coverage applies. Once that is done, liability will be determined with the use of car accident claim reports and statements.

Damages will be reviewed by the claims adjuster and then the payment for damages will take place.
