The term solar is just one which is given to using the energy which is produced by the sun. For thousands of years this technology has been employed in the most mundane of ways, such as by building a house facing south to gather the warmth of the sun throughout the year.
Solar panels today actually convert the energy produced by the sun into electrical energy which we can use in our homes.
We use solar energy today by converting the suns power into electricity with solar panels. Some immediate benefits are that you can reduce or eliminate your energy bills by using these solar panels. This is a green way to create energy because it helps to reduce the amount of fossil fuels we use. Yet, are solar panels really all that ‘green’? This is quite a contradiction but solar panels themselves are not renewable, have a high cost to create and also make a lot of waste. The problem still needs to be solved with a more ‘green’ way to capture the suns energy for our use.
The high demand of fossil fuels can be virtually eliminated if we utilize the most abundant resource we have, the sun. This can help save our environment and our earth by just converting to something as simple as using solar panels to create our energy.
Since the sun is the most abundant resource on earth we can almost completely eliminate our use of natural and fossil fuels by using its energy. Even if we only harnessed 1/4 of the energy from the sun we would completely eliminate our use of natural resources and in turn our destruction of natural ecosystems and the release of greenhouse gasses and other chemicals into the atmosphere.
There are many advantages of solar power. If we could only power all of our homes and tools we use by the sun we would make the world a much better place in which to live.
There still are, however, some disadvantages to using solar. We still need to find a less wasteful and more efficient way to harness the suns power. Some other disadvantages to using solar panels is that the panels themselves are not recyclable which means that once they expire they are no longer usable and create waste. Solar panels contain chemicals which makes them unusable once they no longer produce energy.
And solar panels are still expensive.
Purchasing solar panels can be quite an investment which has a low ROI. Many people feel that solar panels are not worth the high cost and the investment for the future. If we could only find an eco-friendly way to produce solar panels and make them recyclable, and lower the cost, we could truly stop our destructive use of the natural resources of our planet.
