Becoming a Plumber: Basic Advice from a Plumber in Atlanta

in Vocational & Trade Schools

If you have ever considered becoming a plumber know that achieving this title is no easy feat. There are many actions that must be taken to become a fully licensed plumber in Atlanta and most other places. The road is not as short or as easy as many people mistake it for.

First you must become an apprentice and work under somebody else to learn the trade. You must apprentice with a licensed plumber for at least three years before being able to get your own license. After three years if you feel confident enough you can take the proper actions to get your license.

When deciding to get a license you have to be at least eighteen years of age. There will be an exam that has to be passed in order to gain certification as a licensed plumber. If you learned enough in the apprenticeship this exam should not be a problem at all.

There is a set of skills that any up and coming plumber should possess to be successful in their career. Plumbers must be able to work on their own. This means being able to manage time well and motivate themselves to go to work on time each day. Plumbers must also be able to read and understand documentation and diagrams. This skill will give the plumber the knowledge it takes to assess the difficulty of the job and to get the job done correctly.

Knowing the perfect price to charge for a job is essential. If the price is too high the job will be lost, and if the price is too low the job will be unprofitable. Nobody likes to work for free, or even worse pay their own money to work, so estimates are a very important skill to master. Plumbers must be able to use power tools and be mechanically inclined. They have to be able to move about and work installing plumbing is not always easy, sometimes lifting heavy weight is necessary too. If all of these skills are possessed then you will make a good candidate for a plumber
