Contact Lenses vs Glasses?

in Eye Care

glasses vs contact lensesHave you been wearing glasses for a long time and think that you might want to make the switch from glasses to contact lenses but aren’t sure if they are right for you or not? There are a variety of things you should consider before making the switch from wearing glasses to wearing contacts. Contact lenses definitely have a few distinct advantages over glasses, but they are not always easy or the right decision for you. After looking over a few of these things, you should be able to decide for yourself whether contact lenses fit your lifestyle or if you should continue wearing glasses.

Contact lenses are not for everyone. On occasion, some people might have an eye shape that simply does not allow for contact lenses. Mostly this occurs when you have certain sight related problems such as certain types of astigmatism but there are also instances when someone simply cannot be fitted with contact lenses.

Contact lenses are not as cheap as glasses. For someone on a tight budget, this can be extremely important to note. Costs that should be considered include the cost of the doctor’s appointment, the cost of contact lenses, and the cost of cleaning solutions, etc. An eye doctor’s appointment for contact lenses is usually much higher than for glasses because alongside the regular exam, the doctor must also fit you for contacts and teach you to put them in.

Finally, you should consider the time and effort that it takes to wear contacts as opposed to glasses. Where as you can normally just put your glasses on in the morning and get on with your day, putting in your contacts every morning can add up to ten minutes a day to your normal routine. However, as long as you can handle all of these things, most people enjoy the benefits of wearing contacts over glasses.
