Siberia is the largest producer of Russian diamonds, which by the way account for well over 20% of the world’s diamond production, altogether. To say that Russian diamonds have held a sway over many men and women over the centuries is an understatement: one of the most famous larger diamonds came to weigh well over 10.5 carats and fetched a good price of over $30,000 dollars, respectively. The beautiful quality of Russian diamonds has been known for at least one well over 1,000 years, and they have been worn by nearly every person who lived in Russia either of royal or selective lineage.
But it’s not just huge diamonds that are produced in Siberia these days. With well over 7 functional mines and many licenses to explore further, mining companies in Russia go well in the Earth in this region by as much as over 250 feet into the volcanic passages created by former volcanoes and earthquakes in the past. One of the largest Russian diamond producers not in operation by the name of the Mirna Mine. With depths mined up to well over 1,600 feet deep, this mine where the first Russian diamond was discovered in the year 1954, proudly boasts a recovery of well over 2 million carats per year when it was operational. That is certainly a good amount of Russian diamonds to have been located.
The permafrost areas of Russia have long been known to be high producers of diamonds for the region. This is largely due to the fact that the former volcanoes and earthquakes which for millions of years produced such rare and precious stones had long since cooled, providing for a way to mine diamonds, many of which have indeed been on the larger side, overall. It is not unheard of that many of the older Russian diamonds were found to have weighed well over 5 to 7 carats, and many of them quite flawless by the Moh scale, which is the scale by which diamonds are measured and scored for quality and rarity. Most Russian diamonds, like all diamonds found the world over, are found to be extremely beautiful not only in quality but in the vary composition that is found within them. It is highly believed that these diamonds are so beautiful due to the extreme cold that has blanketed and therefore honed the crystalline qualities within them.
Naturally, not all Russian diamonds are as flawless as they could be. This is due to the extreme pressure placed upon them, while encased in their silent, carbon tombs awaiting rebirth by the mining companies in search of them and, subsequently, by those who are lucky enough to have worn them (or even wear them today) as jewelry. The Russian diamond certainly has made a huge impact on diamond lovers worldwide. One fascinating collection of rare Russian diamonds is known as the Diamond Fund, which was started by former Emperor Peter 1 of Russia, who created first the Royal Crown Treasury. This collection remains on exhibition in the Moscow Kremlin, Russia.
