A DIY Experts Guide To Purchasing A uPVC Conservatory.

in Home Improvement

DIY experts know what to look for when purchasing conservatories and they will mostly favour a uPVC conservatory. We wanted  to know why, and we did a survey asking them to tell us the reasons that uPVC conservatories are the favourite choices amongst home improvement experts and what they consider important when purchasing a uPVC conservatory.

They told us that the main reason they would consider a uPVC conservatory over any other type of home extension is that it is a very cost effective way of adding floor space.  A quality uPVC conservatory can be built for much less than a traditional extension and can be even better insulated.

Insulation was in fact the next point these experts considered to be important.  They all agreed that a uPVC conservatory can increase the thermal capacity of the entire home, but that not all conservatories are built to the same standards.  It is important to check out the ‘R-value’ of any conservatory you are considering purchasing, they said.  This is a measure of the resistance of the conservatory to losing heat.

They felt that some people did not design and plan out their proposed conservatory properly and that this was a mistake.  You need to know what you intend to use the conservatory for and plan and design accordingly, they said.  Not planning properly could result  in a structure that is less to your satisfaction than you had anticipated.

Another small but important detail that several experts pointed out was that people who design their uPVC conservatories themselves should try to tie them into their existing home as best possible.  This could mean using a detail from the main residence such as the brickwork and carrying it through, into the design of the conservatory.  This is the sort of sometimes overlooked detail that can help a conservatory fit in to the property.
