Although there are many good electric fruit and vegetable juicer machines available, there are still some good reasons why you might want to consider buying a manual juicer instead. A manual juicer (or hand juicer) is any juicer which is operated by manually turning a crank handle, instead of by an electric motor. Here are some of the best reasons to invest in one:
1. A hand juicer is a lot cheaper than the alternative. Because there is no motor, or gear system involved, production costs are a lot lower. A really good quality hand juicer can be bought for around $40, while you have to spend well over $100 to buy an electric juicer of similar quality.
2. Motors break down, and wear out. A hand fruit juicer by contrast does not have many parts, and is not a complicated device. It’s pretty unlikely that you’ll be able to break a good quality hand juicer, nor is it likely to suffer much from wear and tear even after many years.
3. Hand juicers are best for making juices like wheat grass, green juice, and barley grass juice. Because these juices are only drunk in small shots of about 30 mL, they are fast and efficient to make by hand. The truth is that an electric machine would take longer to clean up, and longer to put away than a hand operated juicer would.
4. There are numerous other things you can make with a hand held juicer: many can be used to make peanut butter, soy milk, and cold pressed seed oils. These are all things which only the fewest electric machines are able to do, and even when they can they make a horrendous mess! A hand juicer is quick and easy to clean, and is one of the best all-round health food processor machines you can get.
5. Ease-of-use and convenience. Fighting with electric cables in the kitchen, and fighting for power points is always a pain. Many electric juicers are big and heavy, bulky, and difficult to handle. This fact alone will eventually deter you from even getting them out of the cupboard – but a hand juicer is small, compact, lightweight and always convenient to pull out and quickly put away again.
As you can see there are some good reasons to buy a hand juicer. It does need to be said that if you want to make large quantities of juice (such as for a whole family) an electric machine probably will serve the purposes better, but if all you need is the odd glass of juice now and again, a hand juicer is the smart choice.
