Hardwood Floor Refinishing Project Planning

If you're planning on doing some hardwood floor refinishing in your home, you have a few options.

You could hire someone to do it for you. This will be the more expensive option, but it will save you time because you won't have to bother about gathering materials. You will also know that your floor is in the hands of a professional. However, hiring someone can be an inconvenience as well, as you will need to fit your schedule around theirs. Also, if you're confident of doing the job yourself, you can do so and save on labour costs.

This article describes the things you need to refinish hardwood floors by yourself.
One thing that many people don't realise is that it's important to properly prepare the hardwood surface prior to touching it up. This is done by sanding, so you need to invest in a sander.

These can be rented, and renting may be your best choice if this is the only wood project you will ever do, but if you do some woodworking projects once in a while it is well worth investing in a good tool. Some sanders are not very good at sanding the edges of floors, so if you get such a sander, you will also need to get an edging machine that can handle floor edges properly.

If you want to change the tone of your hardwood floor, you can buy a stainer to suit your tastes. Different stainers yield different tones and colours, so have a look at different stainers in order to choose the right one for you. You don't need a stainer, though, so if you're happy with the tone of your floor as it is, don't worry about buying one.

It is essential that you buy a good finisher, though, as this will make your floor look stylish and it will also protect it from damage. Polyurethane finishers can be bought in many stores. Just make sure you don't substitute quality for price.
