HP Deskjet 9800 – An A3 Printer Review

in Computers & Peripherals

Anyone in the market for an a3 printer should do a little homework and read some reviews as these printers vary from normal off the shelf printers. This article is an a3 printer review that will focus on the HP Deskjet 9800.

TheHP Deskjet 9800 is a color inkjet printer that offers tremendous value. A3 printers are notoriously expensive, selling anywhere from $500 up to several thousands. At the time of the writing of this article, Amazon did not have any new units in stock –  often a good sign indicating a high demand – but was advertizing a few refurbished units selling for around $350 to $375. The word ‘refurbished’ often scares people, but if you’re wise, you will take advantage of that. Refurbished units are often restored until they operate like new. Often giving consumers amazing bargains.

Not only does the HP 9800 handle a3 prints, it does it at a fairly good speed. It can print up to 30 pages per minute black and 20 pages per minute color. Print resolution is the same as most a3 color inkjet printers; it can reach as high as 1200 x 1200 dots per inch. The 9800 has 150-sheet capacity and its maximum duty cycle is 5000 pages per month. This machine is PC and Mac-compatible, has 32MB of memory, and has options for 6-ink technology and two-sided printing.

The dimensions for the HP Deskjet 9800 are 22.6 x 16.1 x 7.3 inches and it weighs 22.5 pounds. If you’re concerned about sound, max decibel level is 57, which isn’t bad at all. The 9800 comes with a 1-year warranty. It should only be used in temperatures between 41 and 104 degrees. This is a much wider range than most printers, which will improve its durability.

The 9800 offers a parallel and USB interface, but no wireless options. HP PhotoREt III is one of its biggest selling points, as it offers technology that will enhance images. The 9800 is best suited for a business environment and can handle anything from cards, labels, and envelopes to transparencies and iron-on transfers.
