Power tools are dangerous and can even cost loss of life when use improperly. Fortunately good adhesion to rules, which you will find in every Makita power tools manuals, and a little common sense will keep you safe. I am adding a few safety measures here to help you remember what you might have forgotten, and a few that you might not have thought about.

1. First ensure that you buy genuine Makita power tools, there are imitations that may look like the real thing but will not have the safety record that Makita power tools enjoy. Buy from an authorized dealer, first you be feel a certain amount of confidence in the dealership and you will have a place for parts and/or advice should you need it.

2. Earlier I talked about protective gear. Make sure to use some kind of protection to avoid being hit by chipping pieces of metal or wood. Some protection to consider you might need to adjust depending on the job at hand:

? Ear covers
? Eye goggles
? Feet covers – gumboots
? Coveralls

3. Always work in a well lit area. Not seeing well when cutting or piercing material could have disastrous results.

4. Experience may the best teacher but you don’t learn all the mistakes for yourself. Incompetence in use of tools is a major contributor to workshop related injuries. Makita power tools are always sold with a manual; get the manual and learn about the tool. Ask for assistance if necessary and prevent avoidable injuries.
