Differences Between Mens And Ladies Bicycle

in Cycling

Historically, men’s bicycles or ladies bicycles showed no real difference in the way they were designed and built.  The main and only difference, which did exist, was the sloping bar between the seat and handlebars.  This sloping bar allowed women to comfortably step over the frame in order to ride the bike.  This type of bike was popular during the times when women only wore skirts.

Both men’s and ladies bicycles of today have come a long way from traditional bicycles of even a few years ago. In fact, there are bicycles designed and built specifically for use by female cyclists.  Manufacturers recognize the differences between the bodies of men and women, and the need in the design of the bike, so each will feel most comfortable.

The main design of a ladies mountain bicycle today is the small frame with a shorter diagonal bar.  There is also a shorter distance between the seat and the handlebars. The seats are made specifically for a woman’s comfort.  Today’s mountain ladies bicycles are made of lighter materials, narrower handlebars and grips, and for smaller hands, a shorter reach for the brake and gearshift levers.

The clothes worn by women when cycling have also changed over the years.  Cycling shorts are designed to give the cyclist comfort while decreasing their wind resistance and developing their riding efficiency.

Modern cycling shorts are designed to make even the more fashion conscious happy.  They come in many colors, patterns, styles, and sizes.  These specialized shorts are made of spandex, a material that has sensors with built in leg grips for a more comfortable ride.  Each pair of shorts is ergonomically designed with six panels that guarantee the cyclist a perfect fit, consistent comfort and durability.

Ladies bicycles and riding apparel have come a long way from the traditional bikes built for women just because they only wore skirts.
