If you have a bar fridge and are wondering where you should put it, here are some tips to help you out.
As you probably know, most bars don’t have a lot of room, so it becomes necessary to tuck things away in places that are out of the way in order to free the bar counter space for preparing drinks and food. Arguably the ideal location for a refrigerator is right inside one of the lower cabinets. To do this, you have two options.
The cheaper option is to find out the exact size of the refrigerator needed, before you buy it. Simply use a tape measure and get the dimensions of the space that you want to use for this purpose. Then subtract about an inch from each side for clearance, and you have your bar fridge dimensions. Once you know your measurements, then it is as easy as finding a refrigerator that is as close to that size without going over it. Make sure to factor in the depth as well, because if the unit you buy is too deep, the cabinet door won’t be able to close. Doing it this way is simple and cheap, since you can pretty much get any refrigerator that you want that works well. It won’t be visible from the outside, so it doesn’t really matter if it looks good or not.
The second, and definitely harder, way to do it is to get a bar refrigerator with a front that can be fitted with a customized panel. This method definitely is a lot easier to accomplish before you have your cabinets installed. Once you have your fridge, you can give the measurements to the person doing your cabinets, and he/she should be able to provide you with a front panel that matches the surrounding cabinets. The benefit of doing it this way is that you can get a larger refrigerator since you don’t have to worry about fitting it into an existing cabinet. The downside of course is that customizable mini refrigerators usually cost a lot more than basic models.
