Roofing Sheets – Different Options

in Tools

There are various kinds of roofing sheets currently on the market. Sheets are commonly used on commercial, agricultural and industrial buildings, rather than private residential homes. All varieties of roofing sheet offer different benefits and the best choice of sheet depends on the location and usage of your property. Roofing sheets are widely available from many different suppliers, they can be purchased at relatively low prices, especially when purchased in larger quantities.

Roof sheets will generally be produced from either metal or plastic. Plastic sheets are more frequently seen on smaller buildings, and are more likely to be used in residential roofing projects that metal ones. PVC is normally used in the production of plastic roof sheets, it is widely available and an economical choice. Most kinds of plastic sheets are sturdy and long lasting, they do not suffer many of the effects of corrosion and so will require only minimal maintenance.

Metal roofing sheets are generally produced from aluminium or galvanized steel. Both materials are very strong, long lasting and do not suffer terribly from corrosion. Steel is the stronger of the two materials, it is highly dent resistant and has an impressive strength to weight ratio. This makes it very effective in the largest industrial roofing projects. Steel will need to be treated before it is used, this enables it to become somewhat resistant to corrosion. This is necessary as rusting will weaken steel that is left untreated.

Aluminium is a lighter material than steel, but is not as strong. It is however naturally resistant to corrosion, making it more desirable in coastal locations where the air has higher salt and moisture content. Aluminium reacts with oxygen in the air to create aluminium oxide, this forms a protective seal over the metal. Aluminium is the best choice of material where corrosion may be a concern, if strength and dent resistance is more important then steel sheets will better serve you.
