Treating Acne on Your Shoulders

in Skin Care

Most of us are familiar with treating acne on our faces. There are a myriad of products available for medicating this condition which include soaps, cleansers, creams, etc. These are just for removing the acne, not the hyperpigmentation it leaves behind that can be cured using a skin bleaching agent. Many people find it helpful to search online for reviews of cheap Murad age spot and pigment lightening gel and similar skin lightening products in order to make a more informed decision.

Most of the products you will find over the counter contain the same ingredients, so no preference should be given to one particular brand over the other. Many of us make the mistake of choosing the acne cream featured in the catchiest commercial, however this usually results in overspending for no reason. All acne medications work on the same principle – that the skin turnover rate needs to be improved so that the pores don’t become clogged. This exfoliating effect also provides a skin lightening effect that can also be achieved with skin bleaching hydroquinone cream and other standalone products. You heard right, it’s not oil or sweet foods that cause breakouts. Rather, it is your skin’s inability to slough off dead skin cells that causes breakouts.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to you that acne occurs in many other areas aside from the face. Some of these areas are also highly visible, such as your arms. Perhaps the most common form of acne behind facial acne is shoulder or back acne. Your back is particularly susceptible to breakouts as it is being exposed to sweat on a regular basis. The area is a hotbed for bacteria as it is warm, dark, and moist. Shoulder acne needs to be treated much in the same way as facial acne, with some additional strategies thrown here and there.

In some cases, you acne may be triggered by the laundry detergent you are using. It might be irritating your skin causing breakouts. Modern day detergents contain a number of additives to yield an overpowering fragrance, laundry softening properties and to otherwise enhance the functional or aesthetic performance of the product. You can test to see if this is the problem by laundering your clothing in a very basic detergent. If you notice improvement, that may be your problem.

If not, you should begin treating your shoulder acne with products that exfoliate. Cleanse the area first with a gentle cleanser, and then apply benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These are the same ingredients found in treatments for facial acne. Some prefer to use products containing alpha hydroxy acids like glycolic acid to further hasten the rate of exfoliation. You can choose to do so, although be aware that you might cause too much irritation.

If you have been prescribed acne medication for your face, it should be safe to use on your back. Topical retinoids should be applied in small amounts and may cause in increase in breakouts the first few weeks. If you follow these strategies, your shoulder acne should begin to clear in a matter of weeks allowing you to take your shirt off for a summer swim without any form of embarrassment.
