I know, I know some of you might be saying “duh balloon!” but the truth of the matter is that this article is written for those of us who have little contact with the interior decorating world, but for some reason find ourselves in the middle of it. If you would rather watch a football game and eat some chips than be reading this then well…this article is for you.
I was buying my first apartment. It was very small but still looked drab without the hand of someone who knew what they were doing. Just to give you an idea it was the model apartment in a condo, and I asked them if they could include the current curtains in the deal… they did! Needless to say they didn’t last very long, but they did me fine. Then I got married… the wife jumped in and I learned some curtain stuff. For you guys who are doing this on your own and couldn’t fit the curtains in the deal, listen up!
There are a bunch of types of curtains. Here we will talk about balloon curtains just because they are weird sounding. Balloon curtains look like if you took a nineteenth century dress and hung it on your window. Imagine that you hang some flat fabric (what I thought curtains were) from the top of your window but… you include a drawstring that bunches them up and makes them puffy…presto! Balloon curtains.
Depending on what you do with the bottom of the curtains they can be tailed balloon curtains or skirted balloon curtains. You can even use them strictly as a valence. Ah I got you, new term: “valence”. I’ll leave the definition for the next installment of “The guy who knows nothing about interior design but writes articles about it anyway!” By the way, you don’t have to get married to learn this stuff it was completely circumstantial!
