    The national capital of India has been experiencing a spike in air pollution for a few weeks now. The major reason behind the alarming pollution levels in Delhi is the paddy straw burning in adjoining states. The air pollution situation is the worst in Noida which falls into the path of emissions being transported from stubble burning. 

    The share of stubble burning in Delhi’s PM 2.5 pollution jumped to 38% on November 3, which experts said was the reason behind the thick layer of pungent smog over the National Capital.

    The increase in stubble burning has kicked off a political slugfest, with Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on November 2 saying that there had been a 19% rise in farm fires over 2021 in Punjab and that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had turned the National Capital into a gas chamber. 

    The union minister also informed that last year, Punjab Government left Rs. 212 crores unspent. This year the government gave Rs. 280 Crore for residue management machines. 

    So about Rs. 492 crore was available but the state government chose to sit with the funds leaving the farmers with no choice and forcing helpless farmers to burn the crop residue.

    The overall air quality in Delhi deteriorated to severe air quality on Thursday and Friday as the Air quality index (AQI) touched 700+. In areas like ITO, Anand vihar and narela crosses the severe category with AQI being 500+. 

    Stubble burning is still continuing in the neighbouring states and its pollutants are expected to go up in the upcoming days. 

    According to an analysis by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, people in the national capital breathe the worst air between November 1 and November 15 – the period when stubble burning peaks.

    The city records an average PM2.5 concentration of 285 micrograms per cubic metre from November 1 to November 15. PM 2.5 level from 61 to 120 is considered “moderate to poor”, 121 to 250 is “very poor”, 251 to 350 is “severe” and more than 350 is “severe-plus”.

    Tesla CEO, Elon Musk is now in charge of the social media company, Twitter. 

    Musk fired CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, General Counsel Sean Edgett and Head of Legal Policy, Trust and Safety Vijaya Gadde. Sean Edgett, the company’s general counsel, was also pushed out, some people claimed. The top executives were hastily escorted out of the company’s San Francisco headquarters.

    Musk backed the reason for the former CEO Parag Agarwal’s termination being that he had been accused of misleading him and providing little clarity over how he will achieve the lofty ambitions he has outlined for the influential social media platform.

    At least five top Twitter executives — including the chief marketing officer, the chief customer officer, the head of people and diversity, and the head of product — have departed the company in recent days, according to seven people with knowledge of the matter and public statements. Two announced their departures on Twitter on Tuesday; they did not say why they had quit. More executives may leave, the people claimed.

    Yet Mr. Musk has not offered details on how he will achieve all this and who will run the company. He has said he plans to cut jobs, leaving Twitter’s approximately 7,500 employees fretting about their future. He also said on Thursday he did not buy Twitter to make more money but “to try to help humanity, whom I love.”

     

    The CEO of electric car maker Tesla has said he wants to “defeat” spam bots on Twitter, make the algorithms that determine how content is presented to its users publicly available, and prevent the platform from becoming an echo chamber for hate and division, even as he limits censorship. 

    Musk has said he plans to rethink Twitter’s content moderation policies in service of a more maximalist approach to “free speech.” The billionaire has also said he disagrees with Twitter’s practice of permanent bans for those who repeatedly violate its rules, raising the possibility that several previously banned, controversial users could reemerge on the platform.

    Perhaps most immediately, many will be watching to see how soon Musk could let former President Donald Trump back on the platform, as he has previously said he would do. Depending on the timing, such a move could have major implications for the upcoming US midterm elections, as well as the 2024 Presidential campaign. 

    The Tesla founder and CEO were appointed as Twitter’s CEO and Thursday and the closure of the deal ended a months-long, roller-coaster saga in which the billionaire, also the world’s richest person — conducted a hostile takeover to buy Twitter at an inflated price, only to renege on the deal and then enter into a bitter legal battle with the social network.
