In an event held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 28, President Droupadi Murmu revealed a commemorative Rs 100 coin on the occasion of the birth centenary of the iconic actor and former chief minister, Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao, popularly known as NTR, in the presence of his family members. His son, Mr. Nandamuri Balakrishna, and his extended family attended the event, however, Jr NTR gave it a miss.
Speaking on the occasion, President Murmu emphasized the immeasurable contributions made by NTR towards both the film industry and politics.
What are the specifications of the coin?
The commemorative coin, with a diameter of 44mm, comprises 50 percent silver, 40 percent copper, 5 percent nickel, and 5 percent zinc. On one side of the coin, you’ll find the Ashoka Chakra, while on the other side, you can find a portrait of NTR along with a Hindi inscription ‘Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Satajayanti’, with the years 1923-2023, which symbolizes NTR’s birth centenary period.

On August 28, President Droupadi Murmu unveiled the Rs 100 commemorative coin to mark NTR’s centenary year. Sharing some pictures from the event, the official President of India’s handle shared event pictures with the caption, “President Droupadi Murmu released the commemorative coin on Late Shri NT Rama Rao on his centenary year at RBCC (Rashtrapati Bhavan Culture Centre). The President said that the Late Shri NT Rama Rao has made significant contributions to Indian cinema and culture through his Telugu films. NTR’s widespread popularity extended equally to his roles as a public servant and a leader.

Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao was a legend in the world of both cinema and politics. This event took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan Culture Centre on August 28. 2023 which was attended by a selected group of guests.
Speaking on the occasion, President Murmu said that the characters of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna were so alive that the people started to worship him. She also pointed out that NTR’s acting skillfully expressed the struggles and hardships faced by ordinary individuals. She further added that NTR spread the message of social justice and equality through one of his films, “Manushulanta Okkate”.
Additionally, President Murmu appreciated the Ministry of Finance for celebrating NTR's centenary year with the issuance of the coin, recognizing his exceptional contributions.
