Whatsapp, which is owned by META, is a popular app globally used for messaging voice or video calling or file sharing is a very popular mobile app with more than 2 billion users. This app claims to offer end- to- end encrypted messages and usually runs smoothly without any problems.
But recently, a latest bug is resulting in Whatsapp crashing into Android mobile phones. When the user clicks on this simple but problematic link “wa.me/settings” the user is led to have to face a crash loop on Android smartphones.
The first person to discover this bug that was causing Whatsapp to crash on Android was PandyaMayur who posted it on twitter, which soon became a topic of discussion on the social media app with several users pointing it out, which was later on explained by Brute Bee.
According to the report of Android Authority of Whatsapp, the version of Whatsapp affected by this bug was 2.23.10.77 for the versions of whatsapp, i.e. business versions, as well as the consumer version. But, there is a high possibility that the users of other versions are impacted by the bug as well.
Some of the users also shared that the bug also crashes the app when you try to share the url on their Whatsapp status.
How did the bug crashing Whatsapp on android get fixed?
A large number of users globally got affected by this bug but a possible solution to this problem, currently temporary, is available. According to XDA Developers, if your Whatsapp has crashed because of this link, you are advised to delete the chat completely to get rid of this link.
You need to login your Whatsapp through Whatsapp Web through a browser, get to the affected chat where you received the link and delete either problematic message from the chat or delete the entire chat from your chat history.
When you open your Whatsapp on a browser, you do not have to worry about the link crashing your Whatsapp again as the link does not cause a crash when you access the message using a browser.
And once you delete the chat from which this problematic link was received, the app allows the chat to function normally whenever you open it on your Android smartphone.
